(Anderson Prairie poem) Wilting Wonders

Is nature so unnatural as to
Assimilate to the concrete jungle?
Who Imitates who in a world so dry?
Like an invasive species I wander—
With all these natural wonders. Leaves that
feel like plastic, hues of yellow—colors
among others—with small fuzzy ends that
rub against your shins like carpet. Brown crisp
stalks—blowing with a breath of wind—and air’s
sweet caress. Waiting for the promises
held deep within, waiting until the light
is let in. Waiting and sitting in that
great unknown, abandoned yet not alone.

  1. I think your question about who copies who is really interesting. Some people pride themselves on how "earthy" or "natural" their building looks. I have never thought that nature might be trying to look like the "concrete jungle". With all the changes humans have made to the landscape over the years, nature has changed itself. You could argue that whole which came first, "the chicken or the egg"/"nature or humans building things". The answer is fairly obvious, unlike the chicken question.
Your point about being an invasive species is also interesting. But didn't humans start out in nature? So at what point did we start to feel like we were intruding? Leaves feeling like plastic is also intriguing. Bringing a non-natural world concept into the natural world.
I found the last line to be really beautiful. I am not a very technical poetry reader--I may not be able to pick up on all the ins and outs poets use, but I can tell if something sounds beautiful or if it has some kind of truth to it--but I won't be able to explain why! That to me is what makes poetry good. If I am at a loss for words, then it must be good. The last line has a bit of the hymn format, where the line is divided into two and the last word in each rhymes. I was always dragged to church as a kid and had to sing all the hymns so maybe that is why I like the last line? But I do think that it makes a quality point. Kind of tying the natural world into the man-made world? I don't know if that is what you were going for or not.
Also, my apologies if this rambling doesn't make sense.
